A missive intended for the Major General of the French Empire.

Full text

For the attention of the Major General, Captain Ambrose of the Fusiliers took into custody several women from the cutters and sawmillers’ families, failing to cite any just cause. I advised him against it, but he disregarded me, stating that his soldiers' physical needs took priority. Among the captives was the wife of André Ferrus, the Foreman of the Black Wood Mill. In consequence, Ferrus gathered his workers and led an assault upon the Fusiliers Garrison. The attack was pressed hard and many Fusiliers were killed before Ambrose rallied his men and repelled the assault. Ferrus was taken prisoner. Following this, Ambrose convened what he termed a trial against the Voltigeurs, alleging that we had conspired with the sawmillers in the attack. No evidence was given, nor testimony allowed. Sentences were declared at once. A number of our men were hung on Ambrose’s order, executed at our barracks. Their bodies were left there. Ambrose maintains the Fusiliers’ account of events, though it is well understood by all present that his actions served to mask his own failures at the Garrison. The Voltigeurs have borne the punishment. I am seeking reinforcements from the Major General to support my Voltigeurs in subduing the Fusiliers. Ambrose and his men have shown a callous disregard for the Emperor’s citizens and his soldiers. We must deal with them swiftly, so we can then turn our full efforts towards blocking the encroaching Southern Horde. Signed, Captain Etienne, 1st Voltigeur Company, Sombre Forest
