A Miner’s Guide to Lead: Sombre Forest

I have spent the better part of three weeks in the region of Sombre Forest, following the old diggings and the half-forgotten cuts that the charcoal burners speak of when the drink loosens their tongues. The forest gives little to a man who walks its roads, but much to the one who goes where the roads end. Lead runs strong at the base of these mountains. I have seen it in the stone myself, blue-grey and heavy. The trouble is not the digging, but the finding. The best caverns are hidden, and any man who comes upon one would be wise to keep the matter to himself, for a vein known to many is a vein soon gone. The following notes mark three caves where the lead is plentiful, so far as I have seen it. - Cave east of Galerius Tower Situated to the east of Galerius Tower, between the tower and the Deadcliff Camp. The entrance lies low in the ground along the slope and is easily passed by unless one comes at it from the eastern side. - Cave north of Constantius Tower Found roughly one hundred paces north of Constantius Tower, at the base of the cliff that rises beyond it. The opening faces east and sits tight against the rock wall, half-covered by fallen stone. - Cave south of the Pale Quarry Located east by southeast of Maximian Tower, almost directly south of the Pale Quarry. The ground here shows signs of older workings, and the cave mouth lies in a shallow cut at the foot of the ridge, just above the stream.
