Copper in the Sombre Forest Region

Mathias, We went north again today, up toward Galerius Tower, meaning to try the same ground as before. Broke the face near the cliff east of the tower and found copper in the stone. Not a trace, but a proper vein. Good colour. Runs clean. Close enough to the surface that a man can work it without sinking deep. There is more of it about that hill. Looks to me as though the copper sits mostly in the high ground around the tower, not in the ravine. We struck another place to the south, where the big dirigible came down some months back. The crash tore the earth open and showed the rock underneath. Copper there as well. Same colour, same weight. Lies in the broken ground where the soil was thrown clear. If you come looking, keep to the ground between Annecy Road and the eastern bluff, north of the ravine that separates DW from the Cutter’s Camp. Do not waste time to the south or in the Quarry. The ore shows where the rock stands close to the surface. Best keep this quiet. Once word spreads, the hill will be full of men and there will be nothing left worth the digging. - R.
