Mistress Margaretha, You are always welcome to a share of my garlic, though you must come by at the proper hour, for the best of it grows in my plot along the eastern wall of the village, and I would much rather you take it from there yourself. The bulbs have come in large this season. They sit deep in the soil and must be worked loose carefully by gentle hands before they can be drawn up. It is a patient business - getting your hands down around them, feeling where they sit, and giving them a firm pull once you have them properly in hand. A little mess as a result is really unavoidable, though I suspect you would not mind. If you ever find my garden bare, there are a few other places where the garlic grows. Southeast of the village, nestled in the woods is a hut - an old hermit makes his home there, but he is friendly enough. I am sure he will be happy to share his bulbs were you to assist in tugging them out, as usually he must handle them alone. Some lie near the ruin where the cows have made their home, just north of the Chapel. Then in the Farm, Monsieur Garnier keeps his garlic hanging up to dry, and likely has some to spare - although be sure to check with Madame Garnier before taking them, lest she discovers you fondling her husband's bulbs without permission. And there is yet another place slightly east of the crossroad ruin on the North Road. The spot is difficult to explain in writing. Truth be told, I would rather stand beside you and show you exactly where the bulbs lie, and how best to get your hands around them. So do come by when you please. I would be very glad to help you to my bulbs.
