Hunger "Login attempt failed. Server responded with: Bad request"

What you see

When you click Continue on the main menu, Hunger shows the message Login attempt failed. Server responded with: "Bad request". You cannot get past it.

The cause is not confirmed and the studio has not commented. Players say to launch Hunger Playtest rather than Hunger, and to sync your PC clock; neither works for everyone.

What players try

One at a time. Tell us whether each one worked and the next opens.

  1. Two players on r/GOODFUNHUNGER say the error comes from launching the wrong app, and that the beta only runs from Hunger Playtest. Another player says they were already launching the playtest and still got it.

  2. In Windows: Settings, Time & language, Date & time, turn on "Set time automatically", then Sync now. The original poster and another player suggested it; a later player said it did not help them.

  3. The studio asks for this after every Closed Beta hotfix. Nobody has said it fixes this error specifically.

What we know and don’t

A player posted the error on r/GOODFUNHUNGER on the first day of the Closed Beta, and at least four others said they or a friend had it too. One reply gives the full dialog text and says it appears when you click Continue on the main menu. In the Closed Beta feedback megathread on 20 October, two more players reported “a login failure” when trying to join.

Nobody in the thread has said the problem went away, and Good Fun Corporation has not replied there. Reports continued after Hotfix #1 on 20 October, which does not mention logins. Because the cause is unknown, we can’t say whether it is your setup or the servers. If you hit it, post what you see on the server status page.
