Hunger on Linux and Steam Deck: Easy Anti-Cheat blocks matches
What you see
On Linux with Proton, Hunger launches, the menus work and the tutorial runs. When you try to join a server, you get an Easy Anti-Cheat error or are removed, and you cannot get into a match.
Usually fixable on your sideReported
Players report that the Closed Beta's Easy Anti-Cheat blocks Linux, so Proton players stop at the anti-cheat check. Nobody has found a way past it; only Windows works.
What players try
- Note
There is no Linux fix for the beta
Players on the subreddit report tweaking Proton and adding the anti-cheat module to Steam without success. The Steam page lists Windows as the only supported system.

Play on a Windows install
Players who dual-boot say they had to install and play the playtest again on Windows. The store page lists Windows only.

Ask the studio about Linux support where it reads feedback
Linux players are posting in the Closed Beta feedback megathread on r/GOODFUNHUNGER. Good Fun Corporation has not said publicly whether Linux or Steam Deck support is planned.

What we know and don’t
Players on Linux report the same thing across the Steam forum and r/GOODFUNHUNGER since the Closed Beta opened on 19 October. A post asking the studio to enable Easy Anti-Cheat for Proton (42 points on 20 October) says the game “launches, the menus work and performance is fine”, but joining a server brings up an Easy Anti-Cheat error. A player on CachyOS posted that it was the same error as the last Tech Test. On the Steam forum a player finished the tutorial and was booted afterwards, and another thread asks the studio to say in its FAQ that Linux will install but won’t run.
Good Fun Corporation has not posted about Linux publicly, and the Hunger store page lists Windows only. On 20 October the CachyOS player shared a screenshot of a reply to their support ticket from “GFC Support” saying “currently Linux is not supported”. That is a private ticket we can only see second-hand, so this entry stays at reported. We have not found a report from a Steam Deck specifically, but the Deck runs games through the same Proton layer, so expect the same block there.
