Hunger stuck on "Entering Chateau": fixed in Hotfix #1

After launching the Hunger Playtest, the game sits on the "Entering Chateau" screen for 10 minutes or more and never loads you into the Chateau.

This was a bug in the Closed Beta, not your PC. Good Fun Corporation fixed it in Hotfix #1 on 20 October, so update the Hunger Playtest and restart Steam.

What players try

  1. The Hotfix #1 post asks every player to do this before playing, so you are on the build that has the fix. If Steam does not start the update on its own, right-click Hunger Playtest in your library and check for updates.

  2. In Steam: right-click Hunger Playtest, Properties, Installed Files, Verify integrity of game files. This makes sure the update installed completely. It is a standard Steam step, not one the studio named for this bug.

    If many players report "Server connection" on the status page at the same time, the servers are the problem and waiting is the fix.

What we know and don’t

Good Fun Corporation’s Hotfix #1 for the Closed Beta, posted on 20 October, lists “Fixed an issue where players could get stuck on the ‘Entering Chateau’ screen for 10 minutes or longer.” The same hotfix brought the servers back online after downtime, and fixed matchmaking failures and several server and client crashes.

The post does not say what caused the hang. Since the fix shipped in a game update, players on an old build may still see it, which is why the studio asks you to restart Steam and update before playing. We have not yet found reports of the hang after the hotfix. If you are seeing it now, post what you see on the server status page.
