Error expedition-matchmaking

Hunger matchmaking not finding an Expedition, or empty servers

What you see

You search for an Expedition and matchmaking never puts you into a server, or it drops you into a server with hardly anyone in it. Some players waited a long time in the search.

Usually the servers, not youConfirmed

Both problems were bugs in the Closed Beta, fixed in Hotfix #1 on 20 October. Update the Hunger Playtest; long searches after that are usually server load.

What players try

  1. 1

Fully close Hunger, restart Steam and update the Hunger Playtest

Hotfix #1 fixed matchmaking occasionally failing to place players into a server, and players being placed into low-population servers. The post asks everyone to restart Steam and update before playing.

  2. Note

Long searches can still be load

On 19 October, before the hotfix, a player on the Steam forum reported 5 to 10 minute queues every time. The studio says it is watching server stability and matchmaking as more players join the beta. If the search runs long, check the status page for other "Matchmaking or queue" reports.

What we know and don’t

Hotfix #1, posted by Good Fun Corporation on 20 October, lists two matchmaking fixes: “Fixed an issue where players could be placed into low-population servers when searching for an Expedition” and “Fixed an issue where matchmaking could occasionally fail to place players into a server.” The servers were offline before the hotfix and came back with Expeditions available again.

Queue time is a separate question. A Steam forum thread from 19 October reported 5 to 10 minutes in the queue every time. The Closed Beta exists to test server scaling across regions, so waits can change from day to day. We have not found an official queue time target.
