Bodycam "Fatal error!" crash: find which one you have
What you see
A window titled "Fatal error!" appears and the game closes, at launch, mid-match or between rounds. Sometimes there is a line of text under it, sometimes nothing useful.
Cause not confirmed yetReported
"Fatal error!" is the heading Bodycam shows for any crash it can't recover from, so it is not one problem. The line of text under it is what tells crashes apart. If yours has one of the codes below, go to that page. If it has nothing useful, there is no single fix.
What players try
One at a time. Tell us whether each one worked and the next opens.
- Note
Read the line under "Fatal error!"
If it says EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION, DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED or "global shadermap", open that page from the list below. Each has its own cause and fixes.
Reported Use DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to remove the driver, ideally in Safe Mode, then install the latest from NVIDIA or AMD. The pinned community guide in the Bodycam Steam forum, "Common Errors and How to Fix Bodycam if it Crashes!", recommends it.
UnconfirmedPress Windows+R, type %localappdata%, and delete the Bodycam folder. It resets your settings and cache, not the game. The same pinned guide recommends it, and a member of the official Discord staff has suggested it too.
UnconfirmedThe pinned guide's first step. It calls the game "extremely demanding and still in development".
Unconfirmed- Note
Send the crash report
Since V0.8 the game opens a crash reporter after a crash. The studio added it to "catch logs from all crashes and ensure they can be properly fixed", so sending it is how crashes with no known fix get looked at.
Confirmed
Sorted. Glad that worked.
Nothing worked. Here's what to do next.
You've ruled out every step on this page, which is useful. Post this where the developers and other players will see it, so nobody makes you repeat yourself.
What we know and don’t
“Fatal error!” is one of the most common crash complaints about Bodycam on Steam, with threads going back to June 2024. The biggest Steam thread about it, from March 2025, has 49 replies. The original poster, on an RTX 4080 Super and a Core i9-14900KF, got it at random times on any mode or map, with “no information” in the window. Other players in the thread got it at game start, on transition screens, after several Zombies runs, or when leaving a lobby. In the first page of replies, nobody found a fix that worked for everyone and there is no developer reply.
The error window only means the game hit something it could not recover from. The line under it is what tells one crash from another. Three have their own pages:
- EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION: the most reported since the V0.8 update, with no confirmed cause yet.
- “Could not load section … of the global shadermap”: a crash at launch that a reinstall did not fix.
- DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED: the graphics driver stopped responding. It is on your PC’s side and mostly reported on older builds.
The steps above come from a pinned guide written by a player, not the studio. They are general crash advice, so they are listed as unconfirmed. The guide also suggests the -dx11 launch option. We leave that out: since V0.7.1 the game asks you to turn DX11 off if you use it.
