Error could-not-load-global-shadermap
Bodycam "Could not load section of the global shadermap" at launch
What you see
The game crashes as it starts, with "LowLevelFatalError [File:…\Engine\Source\Runtime\RenderCore\Private\GlobalShader.cpp] [Line: 803] Could not load section 0 (of 368) of the global shadermap." The section numbers differ between players.
Cause not confirmed yetReported
Several players on the official Discord have hit this since the V0.8 update, one of them for a week. The usual fixes, like verifying files, reinstalling and clearing the local cache folders, did not help the player who tried them all. There is no reported fix yet.
What players try
One at a time. Tell us whether each one worked and the next opens.
Right-click Bodycam in your Steam library, open Properties, then Installed Files, and choose "Verify integrity of game files". It is the first thing players suggested. It did not fix it for the player who tried it on 26 September, but it rules out a broken download.
UnconfirmedPress Windows+R, type %localappdata%, and delete the Bodycam folder. This resets your settings and cache but not the game. A member of the official Discord staff suggested it. It did not fix it for that player either, and neither did deleting the UnrealEngine\5.5 folder next to it.
Unconfirmed- Note
A reinstall did not help
The player on 26 September verified, then reinstalled the whole game, and got the same error. They said other DirectX 12 games ran fine and their graphics driver was up to date.
Reported - Note
Report it to the studio with your crash files
With no fix known, the report is what gets it looked at. Send it from the crash reporter window if it opens, or post it with your PC specs on the status page so we can see how many players are hitting it.
Reported
Sorted. Glad that worked.
Nothing worked. Here's what to do next.
You've ruled out every step on this page, which is useful. Post this where the developers and other players will see it, so nobody makes you repeat yourself.
What we know and don’t
On the official Reissad Studio Discord, players have posted this exact error since the V0.8 update: on 19 September (one said they had been trying to fix it “for the past 7 days”), on 21 and 24 September, and on 26 September. More than 20 messages there mention it.
The clearest report is from 26 September. The player got “Could not load section 0 (of 368) of the global shadermap” when launching. They verified their files, reinstalled the game, deleted the Bodycam folder in %localappdata% on the advice of a member of the Discord staff, and deleted the Unreal Engine 5.5 cache folder. None of it helped. They said they had submitted it to the developers.
The global shadermap is a file of pre-built shaders the game loads at startup. A reinstall should replace it, so the fact that a reinstall did not help suggests the cause is not just a broken download. What it is, we can’t say yet. The studio has not mentioned this error in its patch notes.
These reports are text posted in the Discord. We link the Discord rather than individual messages because messages there can only be opened by members.
