Error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED
Bodycam "DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" fatal error: GPU crash fixes
What you see
A "Fatal error!" window with "LowLevelFatalError [File:…\D3D12RHI\Private\D3D12Util.cpp] [Line: 873]" and "with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED", sometimes followed by "with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG". It can happen at launch or mid-game.
Usually fixable on your sideReported
Windows lost contact with your graphics card while the game was using it through DirectX 12, so the game closed. It is on your PC's side. One player fixed it by putting their NVIDIA Control Panel settings back to default. These reports are from before the V0.7 update, and we have not seen it reported on V0.8.
What players try
One at a time. Tell us whether each one worked and the next opens.
Open NVIDIA Control Panel, go to Manage 3D settings, and click Restore. The player who started one Steam thread said this fixed it: their settings had been changed by hand when they should have been left for NVIDIA to choose.
ReportedUse DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) to remove the driver, ideally in Safe Mode, then install the latest one from NVIDIA or AMD. The pinned community guide in the Bodycam Steam forum recommends this for crashes. It is general advice, not tied to a report of this exact error being fixed.
Unconfirmed- Note
The old -dx11 advice
Older guides and replies say to add -dx11 to the launch options. Since V0.7.1 in November 2025 the game prompts you to turn DX11 off if you use it, so we do not recommend it.
Confirmed
Sorted. Glad that worked.
Nothing worked. Here's what to do next.
You've ruled out every step on this page, which is useful. Post this where the developers and other players will see it, so nobody makes you repeat yourself.
Might be a different problem
What we know and don’t
Two Steam threads show this error. In the first, from 22 December 2024, a player got “DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason: DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG” five times in one day. In the second, from 20 February 2025, a player got “DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED” at launch. After several replies, the original poster said the problem was solved: their NVIDIA Control Panel “was not set up properly”, and the settings should have been left for NVIDIA to choose.
In the first thread a player suggested deleting D3D12Core.dll from the game’s Binaries folder. One later reply said “Its work”, but nobody could say which suggestion it referred to. So we don’t list it as a fix. If you tried it, verify the game files in Steam to get the file back.
When these reports are from. Both threads predate V0.7 (November 2025), which moved the game to Unreal Engine 5.5 and reworked graphics. We haven’t found reports of it on the current V0.8 build. The newest mention we found on the official Discord is from January 2025. The error itself comes from Windows and DirectX, not the game, so the driver-side fixes above still apply if you do see it.
If you’re getting it now, post it on the status page with your graphics card and driver version.
