Fargot's Hiding Place

Brother, Trouble has come my way. There is a flat-footed underling of Ambrose here who has taken to meddling in my affairs. The man struts about like a keeper of the law, yet he now means to garnish the coin I have earned supplying opium to the cutters in this cursed place. I do not see why such a soldier should profit from it. If a man risks the trade, the coin ought to be his. Yet these men who claim to uphold the law show little dignity when silver is about. Because of this I have begun hiding what I can. There is a hollow stump southwest of the billet and southeast of the logging camp. It lies in a small strip of uncleared woodland near the bluff that falls down into the Coldstone River. The stump is hard to find. A man might pass it a hundred times and never see it. Still, if you should find it, take what coin is there. The sum is near fit for a king, though I doubt it will remain safe long. I cannot say how long I will stay ahead of the soldiers who now hunt me. Fargot
