Marion's Final Note

I knew something was wrong before the boat even touched the shore. The journey was long and I had few supplies, yet I was sustained by hope. Hope that this remote place in the mountains might have escaped the fate of the rest of France - that there would be help here. Instead, there was only silence. No sound of the machinery of the lumbermill. No other boats upon the water. No human voices. I went ashore and made my way through the forest until I reached a cliff that overlooked the mill. It was there that I confirmed the worst, as I watched the creatures shuffling around below. The soldiers, the cutters, their families - all are either dead, or they have turned into those things. There is no help to be found here. Whatever hope I carried with me has died in this forest. No. I cannot despair. I will not. I will take this boat back west. I will reach the Chateau. I will be with my son. Louis - I will see you soon.
