The Bergerac Letter

Found in the possession of a slain Waif outside Sarlat by M. Leclerc (acting by order of the North Treaty). Date unknown. --------------------------------- Bergerac, October 15th, Year of Our Lord 1794 My Dearest Cousine, I am compelled to write to you with heavy heart, as I find myself unable to embark upon the journey. The Bordeaux road, has become the subject of most troubling rumours so widespread that they have stopped all travel from West to East. Brigands without mercy, leaving none alive nor bereft of even their valuables. They are wild things attacking like animals. I am told by our Watchman that even those who travel with armed escortes are not always safe from these marauders. Under such circumstances, I must reluctantly forego my visit. I trust you will understand my hesitation, and it is with deep regret that I delay our much-anticipated reunion. I pray that these disturbances will soon be quelled and that I may visit you in better times. Until then, I remain, Please pass my condolences to Your Beautiful Antoinette.
