Enginefall cannot join friends: crash or party stuck matchmaking

Joining a friend, or joining a random team, crashes the game or sends you back to the main menu. In another report the party would not form and just said "waiting for matchmaking".

Joining friends fails for some players. Two players said inviting through Steam, or loading into your daggers before inviting, worked for them.

    Load into your daggers before inviting or accepting an invite

    One player said they had the same problem and that it worked once both players were loaded into the game in their daggers. They had trouble accepting an invite from the main loading screen.

    Invite each other through Steam instead of the in-game ladder

    Another player said inviting from the ladder has never worked for them, and that inviting through Steam has not failed them yet.

What we know and don’t

On 11 June a player said that they and their friends crashed whenever they tried to join each other, and also when joining a random team, and had not been able to play. The original poster did not confirm that any reply helped.

Two replies offered the tips above. A third suggested deleting the “Enginefall Playtest” install and installing the “Enginefall demo” instead, and said that worked for them and a friend. We have not listed that as a step, because it reflects the June demo setup and may not apply to the current playtest.

A separate post on 8 June (Party not working) reported the party function stuck on “waiting for matchmaking”. One player replied that it was not working for them either, and nobody reported a fix.

These reports come from the June demo. We have not found reports of this on the September playtest build, so it may not affect it.
