Enginefall "Please unload" driver error (ene.sys, msio64.sys, CmUpx.sys)

A dialog at launch saying to unload a driver before starting the game, naming a file such as ene.sys, msio64.sys or ssgdio64.sys, and the game does not start. One player described it as an error "about a driver that's not installed".

Easy Anti-Cheat is refusing to start because a driver from other software on your PC is loaded, often ASUS Armoury Crate or Aura. Players hit it in June, and updating that software or restarting the PC worked for some.

Update ASUS Armoury Crate, or close ASUS Aura and RGB software, then restart
A player answering an ene.sys report on r/Enginefall said the error is Easy Anti-Cheat clashing with something on your system, and that they had to update ASUS Armoury Crate to get past it (theirs was msio.sys). The original poster had removed Aura and the error stayed, so it is not guaranteed.

Close or uninstall the tool that installed the driver
In a Steam thread about ssgdio64.sys blocking another game, players pointed at RAM and hardware tools (Thaiphoon Burner), AMD software, Gigabyte tools and ASUS Armoury Crate. For msio64.sys, one Enginefall player said it is associated with keyboard RGB software; that is their description, not something we have checked.

Remove the driver service from an administrator command prompt
One player in the other-game thread said running "sc delete ssgdio" fixed ssgdio64.sys for them. It is a single report, so treat it as a next step after uninstalling the tool, not a first one.

Rename the driver file only as a last resort, and only if you are certain of the name
Another reply in that thread suggested renaming ssgdio64.sys to a .bak file in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\drivers. Renaming the wrong driver can leave Windows unable to start, so do not do this on a guess.

What we know and don’t
On 17 June a player on r/Enginefall posted that the game said “please unload ene.sys before starting”. They had removed ASUS Aura and nothing changed. A reply said this is Easy Anti-Cheat clashing with something on your system and that updating ASUS Armoury Crate fixed it for them (their driver was msio.sys), and another said restarting the whole PC fixed it.
On Steam, on 18 June a player wrote that the game gave them an error every time it tried to load, about a driver that was not installed. Another player said it named msio64.sys and that they would rather uninstall the demo than remove it, and three more replied that they had the same thing. On 23 June a separate thread reported the same message with ssgdio64.sys. On 21 June, in the official Discord support channel, a player got “please unload CmUpx.sys before launching the game” and said verifying files and reinstalling did not help. None of the threads has a fix or a developer reply.
All of this was reported during the June demo. We have not found reports of it on the September playtest build, so it may not affect it.
A separate thread (17 June) says the game ships with Easy Anti-Cheat, a kernel-level anti-cheat. If that is what is refusing these drivers, it would match a Battlefield 6 thread where the same driver was blocked and a few players reported fixes, which is where the steps above come from. We have not seen the developers confirm the cause for Enginefall, so treat the steps as reports from players in a similar situation, not as a confirmed Enginefall fix.
ASUS’s own forum has several threads about Armoury Crate and Easy Anti-Cheat conflicting in other games, which fits the same pattern.
