Concerning Father Marais

Dear Margot, I hope this finds you well, but I must warn you - keep little Jeanne away from Bishop Marais, especially alone. You know how kind he seems, all soft words and blessings, but I’ve heard whispers from the widow Claire’s boy. He said the Bishop kept him late after catechism, hands lingering too long, asking strange questions about his thoughts. Nothing certain, mind you, but it’s enough to set my nerves on edge. Watch her close, Margot - better safe than sorry. Yours, Elise
