The Patrol Axe is the standard close-quarters weapon of the Valon Gendarmerie. Its broad crescent blade bears the Gendarmerie's cross, cut directly through the steel to reduce the weight of the head while preserving the strength of the cutting edge. Mounted upon a long ash haft, it serves equally as a weapon and field tool, used to breach doors, dismantle barricades, clear fallen timber, and dispatch the Hunger when powder is exhausted. No Gendarme leaves the walls of a citadel or watch post without a Patrol Axe at his side, for upon the roads of Valon it is regarded as indispensable as powder, shot, or a lantern.
